Cooked cod in the microwave last night. Despite lots of air fresheners the house still stinks. Any ideas?

Boil some vinegar in a pot of water, as the scent permeates the house, it'll neutralize the fish smell. Then open the doors %26amp; windows for a few minutes and the vinegar scent will evaporate.

lemon is amazing wash your microwave out with it! although when that happened to me I used oust and it worked straight away. you should try it!
Reply:I would suggest lighting a candle (preferrably a scented one), ansd if you can, light more than one in various places in the house. The flame will drasticle decrease the smell. If it's the microwave that stinks, then leave the microwave outside for an hour or two.
Reply:buy fresher cod

fish in the micro hmmmmm
Reply:Try fans? and open all of the windows if you can
Reply:Fill a bowl with half lemon juice and half water and heat on full for 10 minutes. Wipe the inside of the microwave clean, this is the source of the smell (it will get worse every time you use the microwave) once you get rid of that, you should find the other smell will go soon enough.
Reply:Dont do it next time and light some insense sticks
Reply:1/2 cup of baking soda in a dish and let it set out for 24 hours. Should take out the smell. Next time, put the soda out just before cooking and leave out all night. Dump down the drain with slow running hot water to freshen up the drain when you clear the air.
Reply:fem fresh gets rid of all fishy odours- or have some strong garlic bread then your house will smell of garlic.

That will teach you to not have cod battered the good old british way !!
Reply:Not sure if this will work but putting a cut lemon in a fridge will clear any bad smells this may also work in your microwave. For the rest of the house can just really reccomend airing it for a while to see if this clears the smell.
Reply:BUY SUM DUH

LIKE OUST

:P
Reply:Wash the microwave with vinegar and then lemon juice.
Reply:Half an onion overnight will rid the house of the smell.
Reply:Peel an onion, cut it in bits and leave on a plate. It absorbs the smell.
Reply:use strong candles
Reply:open all windows and put a couple of glasses filled with white vinegar on counters
Reply:If you prefer a natural product use lemon grass essential oil add about six drops into water in a burner or find an empty spray bottle add ten drops of lemongrass in with water give it a good shake and spray around the room. room will smell of lemons when lemon smell disappears then so will smell of fish. it's a natural deodoriser.
Reply:matches, fabreez, fabreez candles, matches, open doors, carpet powder.
Reply:I am not sure what will remove the odor after the fact besides some of the suggestions already noted. But to avoid this problem in the future, put a small dab of peanut butter on the pan/tray before cooking (about the size of the tip of your little finger). Obviously, do NOT use this method if anyone has peanut allergies!!! This method will stop the odor of fish which ever way you are cooking. It also removes the smell of fish from your hands. Just rub a little on your hands and then wash. It works great.
Reply:I've got the perfect solution that I've used myself for same problem . Sprays like Fabreeze only works for a short time and doesn't work for lots of odors. I've got the best solution for eliminating the odor for good... and safe and totally fragrance free. Go out and get a few of the FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers - little purple cube - not the imitations. costs $2 - $3 dollars each and put them around rooms.. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.

I've used these for worst smells including spoiled fish in car and for closets, fridge etc. Also have two cats and use these on litter box - they are FANTASTIC%26gt; No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct which is what I do - contact them at customerservice@innofresh.com and ask for order form. You get it right away.

Definitely the way to go. try it.

Good luck
Reply:dont just put up air fresheners. clean out the microwave. put a measuring cup full of water in there for 10 mins and the hot water vapor and steam will loosen up any gunk in there and make it easy to clean.
Reply:A bowl of baking soda sitting inside the stove.
Reply:Put a bowl of equal parts water and lemon juice in a bowl and microwave for about 5 minutes. Depending on how bad the smell is you may have to do it more than once. I know this trick works to get the burnt popcorn smell out of a house so I am assuming it will work for fish too. Otherwise air out the house and use candles.
Reply:If you have never tried candle tarts - This is the BEST solution to any stinky smells in your home or office.

I moved into a very old house and it smelled like old people....after 8 months of spraying, plug ins and candles and anything else I could find, a friend told me about candle tarts.
