I've never had a flu shot - take cod liver oil pills, zinc, vitamin E daily. Can't remember the last time I had the flu.
Would beefing up your immune system prevent the flu this season?
Taking vitamins is a good thing, but you need to look and see if you are at risk to get the flu. Do you work with children, the elderly, in a hospital, open public places, or do you already have a compromised immmune sytem? There's not really a thing as "beefing" up your immune system. A flu shot exposes your antibodies to the strain of flu so that it can generate an immune response. It changes every year according to the CDC recommendations. All those vitamins do is give your body more strength per say, to combat the flu if you do get it and you won't feel like crap as long. I myself work alone and drive a semi all week. So, I am not at risk. However, in the past, I was a paramedic and went to alot of places that I'm trying to forget. I had to get a flu shot every October. G'luck dear.
Reply:Thanks, you just reminded me that I have not taken my larch today.
The supplement might help; I started to say they could not hurt, however, you can overdose on cod liver oil and vitamin E so take care.
I am getting my flu shot Wednesday. I have been getting flu shots for over 10 years and so far so good.
Reply:it should help.. then again taking the flu shot is no guarantee that you'll be "immune" to getting the flu, what with the multiple strains of flu it's like throwing a dart at a board and hoping that your immunized against the right strain.
if your vitamins are doing the trick, i wouldn't change a thing =)
