A nice fish to try?

I want to try a new fish from the fishmongers. I'm bored of salmon, cod, haddock, trout etc. What is a good fish to eat and a nice simple way to cook it? (fish available in Scotland)

A nice fish to try?
Monk fish, it's more meaty than other fish, much cheaper and a slightly stronger taste. Cook as you would any white fish. It needs a sauce really, parsley or cheddar chees, new spuds, cauli and a bit of carrot. Smoked mackerel from Swankie's, Arbroath, pre vacuum packed, at your supermarket, lovely with a bit of salad and of course, here in Carnoustie, an Arbroath Smokie! Great as a pate', really tasty starter on toast or oatcakes with cherry toms and a bit of rocket, just mix it on down with a bit of mayo and garlic. Marvelous.
Reply:not strictly fish but try a nice dressed crab
Reply:lemon sole is fab

squeeze a half fresh lemon in the pan while frying it is my favourite
Reply:fresh tuna steaks, easy to cook, rub a tiny bit of olive oil on it and sprinkle with a few chilli flakes then grill for about 3 mins each side.
Reply:Try snapper - you can buy in Morrisons supermarket. It requires no seasoning and is not tasteless like salmon (that relies largely on drowning it with some kind of sauce).
Reply:try mackeral
Reply:if you have not tried it mackeral.

Reply:Monk fish is fabulous, shallow fry in olive oil turning once only.

Reply:Don't know much about how to cook them but my wife buys sea bass, red snapper and monkfish quite a lot. Suppose you could get some good recipes for them online.
Reply:Tilapia, baked in butter with onions, red potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Reply:Personally i love skate wings, dunk in flour, egg and breadcrumbs and fry on both sides, yummy!!
Reply:I don't know if red snapper is available there, but if it is, it's a great fish!

Baked Red Snapper

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Three 1 1/2-pound whole red snappers, cleaned and scaled

1/3 cup fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup dry white wine

1 1/2 teaspoons coarse (Kosher) salt

1 teaspoon ground white pepper

2 bunches fresh thyme (optional)

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly oil a shallow roasting pan.

2. With sharp knife, make 4 cuts through skin of each fish. Place snapper in oiled pan. Drizzle, inside and out, with lemon juice, oil, and wine. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

3. Bake seasoned fish until cooked through -- about 25 minutes total, or 10 minutes per each inch thickness.

4. To serve, transfer fish to serving platter. Garnish with thyme, if desired. Serve immediately.
